WordPress là hậu duệ chính thức của b2/cafelog, được phát triển bởi Michel Valdrighi. Cái tên WordPress được đề xuất bởi Christine Selleck, một người bạn của nhà phát triển chính Matt Mullenweg.Phiên bản mới nhất của WordPress là phiên bản 5.5, phát hành ngày 11 tháng 08 năm 2020. Nó được phát hành dưới Giấy phép Tài liệu Tự do GNU.
